NEWS FROM CHR, ST ANDREWS

Events
Professor Duncan Maclennan, CBE will be delivering his inaugural lecture on Wednesday 8th December from 5:15pm at the University of St Andrews. This open event will address the theme of "Housing, the Economy and City Change: where next?".

Local Engagement
Dr Kim McKee delivered the opening keynote at the annual Employers in Voluntary Housing conference in St Andrews on the 29th October. The theme of Kim's plenary was "The Future of Community Housing in Scotland".

Prof. Duncan Maclennan delivered a keynote presentation at the Scotland's Cities conference, held in Dundee on the 10th November. This key event sought to bring together international experts, business and local civic leaders to develop an action plan for the future success of Scotland's cities.

New Staff
CHR is delighted to welcome two new research fellows to its growing research centre. Dr Louise Reid (formerly of Aberdeen University) and Dr Beverley Searle (formerly of Durham University) joined the University in October.

Call for papers now open: HSA conference 2011

The call for papers for the annual Housing Studies Association conference is now open. The theme of the conference is Housing in Hard Times: class, poverty and social exclusion, and the event will take place at the University of York, 13-15 April 2011.

In addition to a dedicated early-career stream, a small number of early-career bursaries are also available this year thanks to the support of the journal of Housing Studies and the Housing Studies Association.

The abstract deadline is 1st February. Please send your abstracts to the conference organisers Kim McKee and Jenny Muir.
