New Poll

So last time most of you voted for the housing market downturn being a minor blip. Is anyone sweating on that one now?

This month we ask:

Who or what is to blame for the current housing market downturn?

There are a range of answers - if you disagree, have strong feelings for those listed or want to suggest other reasons do contribute to the comments here.

Not so much a 'natural phenomenon' (which is what I chose) but the inevitable effect of a free market system? It's not the banks that should be blamed for 'irresponsible lending', we've set up a policy environment where it's encouraged and expected. The basic question comes back to market v regulation, does it not?

Sorry Gordon but I'm blaming you. As a potential first-time-buyer myself I'm beginning to wonder whether I'll ever be able to buy a house! Some earlier state intervention to try and sort out the current mess, and actually help the 'hard working families' the government seems so concerned about might have been useful.

The international aspect is getting worrying as I wonder if what happens in the UK is really going to be determined in Wall Street.
